Our Stories

My experience on the river taught me many lessons, but the primary one that has stuck with me is that in this crazy world… the only answer is to be kind to one another, no matter how hard it is.
– 2017 Adventurer

It was a fabulous confirmation that cancer has not taken away my ability to be out in the natural world, to enjoy the outdoors and so many activities that bring joy to my life. And that I am not too old a dog to learn a new trick or two.

River Discovery gave me my life back. I still have cancer but now I have hope and a better outlook on life. The River Discovery program is the best thing to happen to me since my diagnosis.”

– 2018 Adventurer

It was an amazing week! I’m so thankful I was able to be a part of this trip. The river has always been a healing place for me and this was once again true, but especially so with other cancer survivors.”

– 2018 Adventurer

The Salmon River adventure is exactly what I needed as a stage 4 breast cancer survivor – and best of all to spend it with other amazing survivors surrounded by God’s Glory! “

– 2018 Participant

I got more out of this adventure than I could ever imagine. I have had serious medical issues and being with this group allowed me to open up and also absorb so much from others. “

– 2019 Adventurer

Loved every minute of it! Having recently finished five months of treatment, this experience helped me feel that I finally had my life back.”

– 2018 Adventurer

“Life changing. I wish every cancer survivor could have this experience. It changed my brain chemistry.”

– 2021 Adventurer

I still think about this experience almost every day, and it’s been a year since our adventure.  It taught me so much about myself that I didn’t even know.  I’m much stronger than I thought I was, both mentally and physically.

Adventure in Action

In 2011, Katsey Long and Dusty Stepp took cameras on our teen and adult River Discovery trips.  Here is that story.
